ionsar = to, in the direction of

ionsar < d'ionnsaí ar / d'ionnsaighe ar = lit. "to approach on ", is a combination of the verbal noun ionnsaí and the preposition ar. This is why it is sometimes also written ionns'ar.
Case
ionsar requires the dative.
Initial Mutations

without article: lenition e.g.: ionsar theach Bhriain = to Brian's house

with the singular article:
- in Ulster, lenition e.g.: ionsar an ghairdín = to the garden
- otherwise (if used) eclipsis (except d, t) e.g.: ionsar an ngairdín = to the garden
